Spain's data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, issued a joint report with the European Data Protection Supervisor examining the role of federated learning as a tool to help AI models protect personal data. In the context of training AI, federated learning means models would be trained locally on a specific device and data would not be transferred to a central server. The AEPD said federated learning could be most useful for AI used in health care settings, voice assistants and autonomous vehicles.
